TOO LONG!!!!
Well it started out as an annoying hacker stealing my old Hotmail account (which is what I used to log into this account with) and then it escalated to having to recover what the turd burglars managed to wrangle from me and do damage control, which lead to me hating on the internet for quite some time and trying to get my head back into work mode. Certain things went neglected like my Vox blog (which I have been missin' something terrible)
Lessee...
How to catch my friends up:
- The Cookbook I shot for came out and is on the New York Times Best Selling list and was #1 on Amazon.com for cookbooks for a spell.
- I traveled from Seattle to Jacksonville and then back to Seattle... by car
- I survived Walking Pneumonia to end up in surgery for something completely different
- I have undergone surgery for tumors in my girl junk (still awaiting tests and crap)
- I have become the singer in a Rock Band band called Funkee & the People (as in Rock Band the game... no one would want to buy a record made with my sorry ass singing... besides my nickname would be Mumblina)
- Upgraded my entire computer system to Mac (mmmm Macilicious)
- Got assaulted by a Road Raging Truck Driver who promptly went to jail for said assault (btw he was raging because he made an illegal turn and ran me and another lady off the road and up on the sidewalk... yet came out all pissed off... dick)
- Got asked to speak on a Panel for the PDN Photoplus Expo in NYC in October
- Getting ready to launch a new food blog (better than the other ones I dabbled with) called nommynom.com
- Celebrating life in general
But with all that said...
it feels good to be back here.
I've missed it.
And anyone wishing to catch up with me... pop me a private message and I'll give you some alternate venues to keep in touch :)
I don't post here very often anymore. It's not that I don't like it here, it's just that I've been busy elsewhere. It's not you, it's me. But don't be upset now. I have good news...
I blog fairly regularly over at Zoom In and rumor has it, that I am working on something at the other blog too. And then of course there's flickr and twitter. And Facebook, too. I'm everywhere but here, it seems.
So, when will I be back? Perhaps when there is a new season of Danish Lessons to present. The old ones are available on cd, by the way. Just dropped the price on those suckers, too. Guaranteed to make your mouth hurt (unless you're Danish). Until then...
Wahoooooo!
Yay 100,000 downloads finally!
So I had to do some backwards counting to find the 100,000th file, as of right now the iStock counter is sitting at 99,953 and it has been sitting there since the server update (I checked it at 6:30 and it was 99, 946 and at Midnight is was 99,954 and I had one refunded file with a "double billed" reason and this morning when I checked again it was at 99,953) so I am thinking that right around 6:30-7pm you will see the big number roll over wooooot!
I will show you guys and gals what file pushed it over, but first.... there is the contest winner to announce.
Now, to be honest I was thinking it was going to be right around my birthday (January 14th) as did Swalls, but I was being overly optimistic and not factoring in a December of Doom as far as downloads go. As soon as December hit my downloads plummeted, I expected a small slow down but not THAT slow. So my own calculations were WAY off thanks to everyone having to celebrate the dang Holidays... though not complaining Christmas was a very good one this year despite being lambasted with sickness, kidney issues and farked up old lady backs.
So the contest started to get REALLY tight
williv came in and I thought MAYBE he was going to get it with his prediction of February 7th 1am... to be honest I thought he was going to get it.
But then there is Acerebel who came in with a timeless prediction of February 8th which would put her at the default time of 12:01am.
This file downloaded on February 8th at 12:46pm is #100,000:
So a HUGE congratulations to Acerebel (who is now Rasmus' new hero) for winning!
And last but certainly not least, a HUGE thank you really needs to go out to everyone who contributed to the fun of this post and also to everyone who has purchased and who has commented on my photos. You all give me the drive to keep plugging away at it.
WOOOT!
Now to celebrate... if my old lady back will allow it ;)
Through iStockphoto, I have been drafted as a blogger over on the magnificent site, zoom-in. They asked me to blog about the life of a photographer, and I agreed. This is extremely exciting, and I hope everyone will join me on this journey.
Check out my intro-post and the rest of zoom-in.
Wooooohooooooo!
31 bags of groceries, over 150 hours of Food Styling, over 86 set changes, over 75 hours of Shooting, 14-16 hours a day, 11.5 gigs, 2,217 files later.... the Cook Book shoot is finished!
It has been hard work, but I have loved every minute of it. I am so excited for the release of this project. It's a slight departure from my usual style of photography. I'll be able to divulge more once it goes to print, but for now let me just say that these shots will make you want to gobble up some of this health conscious and delicious food!
It won't be long now before I will be able to give you all more details and start throwing out some linkage for ordering. I've already seen the cover and it freaking ROCKS! It's going to be a great cook book for sure!
And now to celebrate with a Zappa Plays Zappa concert with my main squeeze, Rasmus.
I want to say a huge heart felt thank you to Rasmus. He was instrumental in motivating me on the days when I felt I had nothing left in me. He washed my prep dishes... mountains and mountains and mountains of them and never a word of complaint. Thank you Rasmus, you are the bestest in the whole wide world. Love you bunches for keeping me from going insane and moving forward!
YAHOOOO!
I am venting. I am not going to air what I am venting about but I will say that I am highly pissed off in a way that is beyond comprehensible measure.
One thing I can not stand is people who assume and make accusations on their assumptions.
Do not make assumptions about a situation before you have all the facts in front of you, and certainly do NOT make defamatory character judgments and accusations before you have explanations and/or facts before you. People that do this are insensitive, untrusting, accusatory, non-fact knowing Assholes.
A big fat middle finger to people who jump to conclusions.
I'm not a bad person.
But piss me off and I am a Jerk.
Nearly 40 pounds (18kg) of some of the most delicious chocolate confections I have tasted in a while, and I am not just saying that because these belong to a client... they really are AMAZING! Chocolate enrobed Almonds, Cashews, Strawberries, Blueberries, Cranberries, Oranges, Coconut, Peanuts and soooo much more.
I can't tell you more than this right now, but I can tell you that this is for a very popular confectioners. And once the new product packaging is all done and ready to be released you can be sure I will be jumping up and down here like a nut... a CHOCOLATE covered nut that is and giving you the sweet scoop on where you can pick some of this goodness up.
This is the life of the Food Stylist and Food Photographer. Pretty sweet, eh?
Get it?
Sweet?
hahahaha!
I do apologize for the utter silliness of this video. It was Monday evening, and I had a little extra time on my hands. Maybe too much time.
Come by Cafe Vega on November 9th between 7pm - 9pm and meet me (yay!) and the other featured photographers. It's a perfect opportunity to shop for the holidays as well (hint hint) and a portion of all sales will go to the NW Harvest charity.
So, drop by and say hello, buy my photo for a special friend and make everyone happy. Oh, and my photo is the one I am holding up here. It's a unique re-process of a photo I took in Seattle's International District back in 2005.
"Most photographers out there want to work with models, and when you’re doing stock photography, you can pretty much use any type of model for a good, commercial photo. The notion of finding willing models and asking for signed releases, can seem like a huge step to take. And it is. But the sooner you get into it, the faster you’ll get used to the idea. And that’s where the fun can begin.."
